John 4:23,24:
But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
Here, speaking to the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus Christ prophesied of the day when true worshippers would be able to truly, spiritually worship their heavenly Father. That day, which had been in the process of coming since Genesis, chapter 3, fully came on Pentecost, June 20, 28 A.D.
Acts 2:1-4:
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
On this day, the gift from the Holy Spirit was “fully come.” The outpouring was complete—it was in full. On the day of Pentecost, it became available to be born again of God’s spirit, filled with the power of the gift of holy spirit. And once a person has the gift, he or she can operate it and bring it into manifestation. The twelve apostles who had just received the gift did the speaking by the power of God. And when they began to speak, they spoke “with other tongues.” Not only did Pentecost make available the new birth, but it was now available to worship the true God by the spirit—by speaking in tongues.
Acts 2:11:
Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
I Corinthians 14:2:
For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God....
Acts 10:46:
For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God....
Speaking in tongues is truly worship.
Since then God has never given more because He gave the complete package on the day of Pentecost. The gift of holy spirit—this complete package—is power from on high with spiritual abilities and enablements to be manifested. In all its fullness, holy spirit is “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” We have the power of Christ in us.
Colossians 1:27:
To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
