Recognize Our Position in Christ as Sons of God

I have worked many different jobs that included various positions and responsibilities. With some of them, I received a lot of training, but with others, I received minimal training. Yet in all of these job positions, I was confident in my ability to be victorious in whatever I did. How could I do this? By recognizing my position in Christ. Recognizing, or realizing, what God says in His Word about who I am in Christ has made a difference in my life and is one step in the process of renewing my mind. As I recognize my position in Christ as a son of God, I am able to claim what God has graciously given me and walk with power and victory.

I John 3:1:
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

Romans 8:16,17:
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ….

Once we are born again, we are God’s sons, His own children. That makes us heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ. Because of our position in Christ as sons of God, we have legal rights and privileges along with power and authority that we can claim, such as a legal right to eternal life, to receive the indwelling presence of the holy spirit, and to use the authority of the name of Jesus Christ. God gave us these rights and privileges to claim and enjoy. We can get results as we renew our minds to His Word: we line up our thoughts with what His Word says and act on it. Two actions we can take to help line up our thoughts with who God says we are in Christ are (1) confess the Word and (2) utilize retemories.

Confessing the Word is one way we can recognize our position in Christ. We say what the Word says we are. What we confess in the innermost part of our being is what we bring into manifestation in our life. Confessing, saying, speaking the words of the Word is vital to getting results.

Our mouths can confess either the positives from God’s Word or the negatives from the world. God’s Word says we are sons of God and joint heirs with Christ, so that is what we say too. As we think and say what God’s Word says, we will abound.

Another practical way we can remember to recognize our position in Christ is by way of retemories; these are scriptures we retain in our memory. They encourage us regarding who we really are and what we can do as God’s sons. Our ministry Bookstore makes available a fun and handy way of learning scripture retemories via a little booklet titled The Abundant Life for You. I love that booklet and even gave one to a coworker. To memorize words of truth from God’s Word is absolutely invaluable to our walk because it helps our thoughts to reflect the spiritual truth that we are God’s sons with rights and privileges.

Philippians 2:5:
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.

We can think the thoughts that Jesus Christ thought. What thoughts did he think? Jesus Christ held the written Word in his mind and acted accordingly.

I am strongly persuaded that the many victories in my life during transitions and changes have come from utilizing retemories. Whenever I didn’t have a Bible on hand, a digital device within reach, or even another believer close by, I still had specific verses in my mind. And it’s that memorization of certain scriptures that has allowed me to get stronger spiritually and to continue steadfastly, recognizing my position in Christ no matter what. Two particular verses that I have retained in my heart are Philippians 4:13 and Ephesians 3:20. These verses remind me as God’s son that I can do all things through Christ and that God’s power works in me. We can get results! Six months after I gave my coworker the booklet of retemories, she told me she carries it with her wherever she goes to remind her of God’s promises.

No matter where we are or what we’re doing in life, as born-again believers we will always remain in this position in Christ as sons of God. We can be victorious as we elevate our thinking to who we are in Christ by (1) confessing the Word and (2) remembering His promises by way of retemories. Acting on these two keys enables us to be confident and victorious in any situation or position in life. Let’s continue to realize our position in Christ as sons of God. We can walk with power and victory!
